Tigers Shutout Lions Drop Second Game of Doubleheader
The Brenau Golden Tigers softball team split with the Emmanuel College Lions on Tuesday, taking the first game 4-0 and dropping the second game 6-4.
In game one, the Golden Tigers scored three runs in the third inning to take a commanding lead. Senior Tiffany Schandera (Columbus, Ga.) went 2-3 with an RBI, junior Sally Duggan (Huntsville, Ala.) added two hits and senior Taylor Kelly (Toccoa, Ga.) added an RBI to secure the win.
Junior Jenny Shepherd (Martinez, Ga.), pitched seven strong innings allowing only four hits and no runs. The junior struck out seven batters and walked only one. She also helped the Golden Tigers at the plate, hitting 2-3 while driving in a run.
In game two, Brenau once again jumped out to an early lead 3-0 lead. However, poor fielding and three late runs by Emmanuel College doomed the Golden Tigers.
Duggan led the way for the Brenau offense with a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Katie Cole (Tupelo, Miss.) went 2-2 with an RBI.
Senior Anna Maness (Seagrove, N.C.), pitched 7 innings allowing ten hits and four earned runs.
Coach Devon Thomas noted the contrast between the two games, "In the first game, we played excellent defense, smart hitting and good pitching. In the second game, we didn't make the same plays. We need to be more consistent".
Brenau continues the conference schedule on Friday hosting William Carey College (Miss.). First pitch is at 3 pm.
