Tigers Take Down Tornadoes in Softball
The Brenau Golden Tigers softball team defeated the Talledega Tornadoes 15-0 and 14-3 to complete a clean sweep of their weekend games.
In game one, Brenau scored 7 runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. The Golden Tigers scored two more runs in the 3rd inning and another six runs in the 4th inning to finish the game. Senior Tiffany Schandera (Columbus, Ga.) went 2-3 with 2 RBIs while freshman Liz Schneider (Smyrna, Ga.) went 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Jenny Shepherd (Martinez, Ga.) went 3-4 with 3 RBIs and Caitlyn Glenn (Watkinsville, Ga.) went 3-3 as the Golden Tigers outhit the Tornadoes 18-1 for the game. Freshman Taylor Causey (Covington, Ga.) came in relief to work four no-hit innings to capture her first win of the year.
In the second game, Brenau once again scored 7 first inning runs to capture another easy win. Schandera and Schneider each went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, while Andrea Bentley (Augusta, Ga.), Lauren Parten (Hartwell, Ga.), and Madison Strickland (Gainesville, Ga.) each had 2 hits. Causey pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief to take her second win of the day.
The sweep helped improve Brenau's record to 15-5 on the season. The NAIA #3 ranked Golden Tigers pick up their conference schedule on Wednesday with a home game versus Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.). First pitch is at 5 pm.
