Golden Tigers Beaten on Final Day

GULF SHORE, AL - Brenau Softball team had another day of upset in the final day of the Gulf Coast Invitational Tournament today. Up against William Woods University in the Bronze bracket of the competition the Golden Tigers could not produce a winning result falling to a 2-1 defeat.
William Woods were the first to score in the game picking up one run at the bottom of the 3rd and the eventual winning run in the bottom of the 5th. Brenau finally picked up a run in the top of the 6th. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs Brenau looked set to get back into the game, however this turned out not to be the case. The Owls held out in the top of the 7th and won the game.
At the mound sophomore, Jenny Shepherd started the pitching getting 4 strikeouts. She was replaced by junior, Anna Maness in the 5th inning who also made 4 strikeouts. Brenau matched the Owls 5 all in total hits. The leading hitters for the Tigers were seniors, Jacqueline McWhorter and Ellen Black who both went 1/2; junior Taylor Kelley who went 2/3 and sophomore Sally Duggan who went 1/2 picking up the tigers only RBI.
After today's game the Golden Tigers record has slipped to 11-4. Brenau will hope to recover from their disappointing weekend at the coast and get back to winning ways when they visit SSAC opponents Truett McConnell on Tuesday March 13.
