Tigers Take Over Lead in SSAC

Gainesville, Ga- Sophomore Ellen Black (Stephens County) picked up her 7th win of the season and blasted a two run homer to help lead the Brenau softball team to a 10-4 and 6-1 sweep of Brewton Parker in SSAC action yesterday. The Golden Tigers run their season record to 14-1-1 and take over the lead in the conference at 9-0-1. The Barons drop to 11-5, 4-2. In the first game Tiffany Schandera went 3-4 with a double and homerun, driving in four runs to lead the way offensively. Sarah Applegarth was 1-3 with a couple of RBI's and Colleen Sparrow, Lana Lazar, Brooke Bryant and Morgan Smith all collected one hit. Freshman phenom Anna Maness went the distance on the mound, striking out five.Ellen Black came up big in the second game, pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts to win her seventh of the year. She also had a homerun with two RBI's to help her own cause. Sarah Applegarth continued her hot streak with a 3-4 performance at the plate and two RBI's. Schandera continued her offensive production, getting two hits and a stolen base and Brooke Bryant got in on the fun with a couple of hits and stolen base. Brenau will travel to Mobile this weekend to play in the prestigious Gold Coast Invitational where they will play against some of the top teams in the country.
