Brenau Softball Knocks Off #22 AUM

Montgomery, Al- The Brenau softball team completed a very successful western swing today by defeating #22 Auburn Montgomery 5-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game ended in a 5-5 tie that ended because of darkness. The Tigers are now 10-1-1 for the season and a league leading 5-0-1 in the SSAC. AUM drops to 8-3-1 and 0-1-1. Taylor Kelley had a monster game in the first one, going 1-3 with two RBI's, a triple and two stolen bases. Lana Lazar continued her hot streak, hitting two doubles and driving in a run and Brooke Bryant and Tiffany Schandera each had a hit. Anna Maness went the distance on the mound, collecting two strikeouts.Ellen Black took over the pitching duties in the second game and struck out three. Morgan Smith had three hits and drove in two runs and Sarah Applegarth also had two RBI's on two hits. Lazar had another hit and an RBI and Bryant went 2-3. The TIgers were down 5-3 going into the seventh inning, but picked up two runs to force the tie as darkness prevailed. Brenau will travel to Orangeburg, SC next weekend to take on NCAA I South Carolina State in a doubleheader.
