Defending Champs Open Softball Season

Gainesville, GA- Coming off the best season in school history, the Brenau softball team will open their 2010 campaign with four games in Savannah this weekend. They will play two games against #23 SCAD and two more with Montreat, NC. The 2009 team enjoyed unprecedented success, finishing the season with a SSAC Regular Season Co-Championship and #11 NAIA ranking. They received an at-large berth in the National Championship Tournament in Decatur, AL.The Tigers return six players from the championship team, including First Team All SSAC and Freshman of the Year Morgan Smith. Also back are All SSAC Second Team selections Ellen Black and Brooke Bryant. Coach Devon Thomas was named SSAC Coach of the Year as the team finished 26-6 in conference play and 42-12 overall. In the recently released NAIA Pre-Season Poll, Brenau was one of four SSAC teams that received votes.
