Conference Champs!

The Golden Tigers softball team completed their magical regular season Sunday with a sweep of Reinhardt, 2-0 and 4-2 to finish as SSAC Co-Champions with Lee University. Both teams finished with identical conference records of 26-6.Brenau will enter the conference tournament as the #1 seed by virtue of their three wins in four games over Lee. The Tigers finish the regular season with a school record 39-8 overall mark and NAIA #12 ranking. With a new ranking due out Tuesday, the hope is that the ranking will improve enough to insure an at large spot in the National Championships. Reinhardt dropped to 17-15 and 28-20 with the losses. Senior Cassie Lassiter came up big in the first game, pitching a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts and then delivering at the plate with two hits, both of which were doubles. Four other Tigers got one hit apiece, with Brooke Bryant, Tori Fobb, Jesse Groves and Marisa Litster all getting aboard. Litster came on to pitch the second game and ran her conference record to 14-3 with a five hit, three strikeout gem. Fobb had an RBI double to lead the offense and Bryant, Groves, Lassiter, Nicole Burt and Heidi Cranford also collected hits. Next up for the Tigers is the SSAC Conference Tournament in Rome this weekend with an automatic berth to the NAIA Championships at stake.
