Comp Cheer Places Second at NCA Nationals
Daytona Beach, Florida- The Brenau University competitive cheerleading team placed second in the All Girl Advanced DIII Division at the 2023 National Cheerleading Association (NCA) College Nationals this past weekend.
The team scored well enough in the preliminary rounds to sit in second place going into the final day of competition.
In the finals, the squad posted a final event score of 91.534, which was only 4.1 points shy of eventual champions, Alma (MI) College.
Cortland State (NY) placed third place, while Endicott (MA.), Stevenson (MD) and the University of Dubuque (IA) rounded out the top six finishers.
“We didn't have a perfect performance in either the preliminaries or the finals, but I'm still very proud of the team,” said head coach Bralee Housworth. “We had zero alternates all season and we still managed to put on a great performance with only 19 on the floor. I do know that a fire has been lit within this team and they are ready to get back to work in hopes of bringing home a National championship in the very near future.”
“We are losing four great seniors, but the rest of the team will be returning for the 2023-24 season and we are currently recruiting some great talent. We're hungry to get back on the Bandshell and bring a National Championship back home to Brenau.”
