Golf Captures Team and Individual Titles at St. Andrews
The Brenau golf team placed five players in the top ten to capture the St. Andrews Invitational team championship at Scotch Meadows Invitational in Laurinburg, SC on Tuesday.
Senior Sara Jane Bowers edged out teammate Niquole Mangal in sudden death to capture low medalist honors as the Golden Tigers cruised to a two-day 632 to easily outpace host St. Andrews College for a 34-stroke victory and claim their second team championship of the year. For Bowers, this was her second individual championship this fall after winning the SCAD Invitational in September.
"I'm proud of the way the ladies played at St. Andrews," said head coach Damon Stancil. "It wasn't their best golf, but they did a good job of limiting their mistakes and posted two very solid rounds. A second team win and another individual title for Sara Jane has made this our most successful fall season in program history. We'll continue to work hard, prepare for Coastal Georgia's event next week and try to take this momentum into the spring season."
Bowers shot a 79-76-155 (+11) while Mangal matched her teammate with a 78-77-155 (+11) to outpace the competition by two strokes. Sophomore Ashley Omidi, the day one leader, earned fifth place honors (76-85-161) and teammates Macie Hurst (83-81-164) and Megan Reddick (84-82-166) played well to take seventh and ninth place respectively.
Host St. Andrews placed second with a team score of 666 while Montreat (NC) College (692), Sandhills Community College (738) and Columbia College (779) rounded out the top five.
Brenau closes out the fall season with a trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia for the Coastal Georgia Invitational on October 30th and 31st.
