Golden Tigers open the season with two top ten finishes at Apple Mountain
Clarkesville, GA- The Brenau golf team opened the season with a short one-day trip up to Apple Mountain Resort and Golf Club. Truett-McConnell hosted the individual-only tournament with universities from NCAA D2, D3, and NAIA represented. The Golden Tigers were greeted with sunshine and mild temperatures as they competed with over 140 players in the Men's and Women's divisions.
Morela Boyd, recently named team captain for the year, struggled to find her game early on but was still able to persevere and shoot a respectable 79 to notch her sixth top-10 finish at Brenau.
Freshman Audrey Bacic started the day very strong but, faded a bit down the stretch. Bacic was able to match Boyd's with a 79 and capture a top-10 finish in her first collegiate start.
Freshmen Emily Minish, Lainey Addison and Quinn Hawk all made their first career starts for the Golden Tigers, while senior Harper Davis started her season with a solid round after struggling in qualifying.
When asked about his players performance after the tournament, Coach Elam noted: "We have a very unique team this year with a 6th and 5th year senior to go along with four freshmen. Overall, I am happy with the team's performance. We showed a lot of resilience after a few slow starts, and we were able to post a couple of good scores. We have a solid one-two punch at the top of the lineup with Boyd and Bacic and we will just need a few of the other freshman and Davis to step up and post some solid scores. biggest takeaway is that we lack a lot of course management skills. That is something we will continue to work on throughout the season."
The Golden Tigers are back in action on September 8-9th for their first team event of the season as the squad heads south to St. Simons Island for Coastal Georgia's Fall Invitational.
