Golf Takes Second at UPIKE Invitational
Prestonsburg, Kentucky- The Brenau golf team placed three players in the top ten finishers to take second at the UPIKE Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Club this past weekend.
The Golden Tigers shot a two-day 312-322—334 for a strong second place showing in the team's opening tournament of the fall season.
Senior Niquole Mangal led the charge with an overall third place finish. The senior posted a 75-77—152 (+8) to finish eleven strokes behind low medalist Ellen Kehoe (-3) of host University of Pikeville.
Macie Hurst also had a solid tournament with an overall fourth place finish. The junior shot 76-80-156 (+14) to improve two places on her round one finish. The opening round 76 tied a career-best for the Flowery Branch native.
Fellow junior and teammate Annika Blanton had a strong fifth place finish with an 80-78-158, while freshman Haylee Rhodes added an 81-87—168 (+24) to finish in a tie for eleventh place. Freshman Abby Akin tied for 20th place with a total of 93-90—183 (+39).
Host Pikeville won the top team honors with a 615, while fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference member Kentucky Christian University captured third place with a 694. UVA-Wise (715) and Shawnee State University (750) round out the team finishers.
The Golden Tigers will next compete at the AAC Fall Preview on October 14-15 at Chateau Elon in Braselton, Ga.
