Bacic and Minish lead the Golden Tigers to a sixth-place finish
Lecanto, FL- The Golden Tigers placed sixth in their first ever tournament in the state of Florida at the inaugural Battle at Black Diamond which was hosted by the New College of Florida. Due to lightening in the area the second round ended up being canceled and only results in the first round were counted toward the overall.
Host New College of Florida brought universities from both Georgia and Florida to compete in the inaugural event. The squad competed against a field of 40 players, who faced very hot and humid conditions for the duration of the championship.
Freshmen Audrey Bacic and Emily Minish led Brenau with scores of 79 and 82 respectively. Bacic tied her low round and low finish at Brenau with a T-9. Minish's score was her low round at Brenau and low finish at 18th. Harper Davis and Lainey Addison stayed very consistent and posted scores very close to their season average.
Morela Boyd had her first bad outing for the Golden Tigers and will look to bounce back into form next week in Tennessee. Despite Boyd's performance Brenau was still able to post its lowest team score of the season at 341.
When asked about his players' performance after the tournament, head coach Mark Elam said, "Our freshman are really starting to find their footing and play some really solid golf. I am very pleased with how far Bacic and Minish have come in a short time. I believe we are going to start posting some lower scores in the near future."
The Golden Tigers next head to west Tennessee to compete at the FHU Fall Invite hosted by the Freed-Hardeman, in Henderson, TN., on September 29th-30th.
