Golf Places Fifth at AAC Qualifier; Two Named All-Conference
The Brenau golf team finished fifth at the AAC Direct Qualifier and placed two golfers on the AAC All-Conference team for their performances this season.
"We had a tough day on Monday in round one. Tough conditions and competing without all of our players made it very difficult to try to keep pace with SCAD and Milligan. The ladies bounced back on day two and posted a much more competitive score. Niquole (Mangal) did a great job on Tuesday by hanging in, even when the putts weren't falling, to finish in the top five."
The team shot a 350-330-680 to place only seven strokes out of fourth place in the tournament.
Junior Niquole Mangal shot an 82-77-159 to place tied for fourth place, while sophomore Macie Hurst finished with an 82-84-166 to finish tied for 14th.
Senior Amber Clayton shot 89-87-176 to finish tied for 27th, while fellow senior Megan Reddick notched a 97-82-179 to finish 33rd.
Individually, Rachita Vasandani from SCAD Atlanta was the low medalist with a 78-74-152.
SCAD-Atlanta won the team championship with a team score of 645, while Milligan College finished second with a 657. Tennessee Wesleyan (658) and Point University (673) rounded out the top four places.
Mangal was selected as both a first-team All-Conference selection and an All-Tournament performer, while Hurst was chosen as a second-team All-Conference performer. Additionally, Clayton was chosen as the team's Champions of Character winner.
"The team has learned a lot this year about what's needed to climb up in the rankings," said Stancil. "I know they'll come back ready to play their best in the fall."
This concludes the 2019 season as the squad returns three letter winners next season.
