Mangal Earns Low Medalist Honors; Golf Takes Third at Spring Invite
Gainesville, Ga.-Junior Niquole Mangal outdueled Bryan College's Krista Reinhardt in a sudden death hole to capture low medalist honors and help the Brenau golf team place third at the Golden Tigers Spring Invite on Tuesday.
"The team did a very good job of holding it together today," said head coach Damon Stancil. "Playing conditions were extremely difficult, but they persevered. Niquole (Mangal) winning the sudden death playoff for Low Medalist, as well as the team tying for the low round score on day two, should be a boost for them as we get ready for the AAC Spring Championship and the AAC Direct Qualifier."
Mangal fired an 80-81-161, while the Golden Tigers squad posted a team score of 691, including a low team score of 344 on day two to improve from fifth to third after two days of competition.
For Mangal, this was her second top-three finish this spring, following her third place finish at the Winter Invitational at St. Simons Island in February.
Brenau also had a pair of top-fifteen finishers as Annika Blanton (86-87-173) placed twelfth out of forty seven competitors and Macie Hurst improved four strokes from day one (90-86-176) to place fifteenth.
Other Golden Tiger finishers include Amber Clayton, who shot a consistent 91-91-182 (T21) and Megan Reddick, 93-90-183 (T23), who placed only one stroke behind Clayton.
Coastal Georgia won top team honors with a score of 671, while Thomas University placed second with a 689.
Brenau next competes at the AAC Spring Championships on April 1-2 in Waleska, Georgia. In October, the Golden Tigers placed third at the AAC Fall Championships.
