Gainesville, Ga - Brenau University Athletic Director Mike Lochstampfor has announced the hiring of Blaire Bachman as the next Golden Tigers swim coach. Bachman graduated in 2009 from Georgia College and State University, where she single handedly organized, coached and publicized the GCSU Swim Cats Swim Club.
Blaire has been involved with Brenau since 2001, serving as a lifeguard and swim instructor, where she conducted private and semi-private lessons for all ages. She has also been involved with the Lanier Aquatics Swim Club on a seasonal basis since 2006 as she assisted the head coach in creating and implementing workouts for competitive swimmers, managed meet preparation and event lineups, and communicated regularly with parents as to progress of their swimmers.
Bachman started her collegiate swim career at University of the Cumberlands, KY where she was a scholastic All-American. In addition to her work with the GCSU Swim Club, she was also President of the GCSU Sports Council. She was most recently involved with The Zimmerman Agency in Tallahassee, Fla. as an Account Coordinator and Public Relations Specialist where she developed and maintained relationships with industry and media contacts to foster a positive image of Firehouse Subs and Tobacco Free Florida.
"I am thrilled to have Blaire as the new head coach for Brenau University's swim team. She has a tremendous passion for swimming and has always been involved with the sport. I believe she will be able to grow the program and she has some great ideas that will result in our program becoming more visible, both locally and at the national level. There's no doubt she will have a significant impact on our program and I look forward to seeing it thrive under her direction," said Lochstampfor.
"The opportunity to coach the Golden Tigers swim team is a true honor and one that represents my lifetime love for the sport," said Bachman. "I am looking forward to a great season and helping to build a successful program."

Monica Souther Signs Letter of Intent
Tunnel Hill, Ga - The Brenau swim team added a record-breaking recruit for next season when Monica Souther committed to join the squad. Souther competed for Northwest Whitfield High School, where she set school records in the 100 Fly, 100 Back, 200 IM Relay, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay. She also swam for the Dalton Dolphins and the Makos under the direction of Coach Charles Todd.
Monica was on the Honor Roll all four years during high school and lettered in academics in addition to her accomplishments in the pool. "Monica will be a valuable addition to the Brenau University swim program. She has the passion and work ethic to be successful as a swimmer at the collegiate level and I anticipate she will make a significant contribution to our swim team." said Athletic Director Mike Lochstampfor, who attended her signing ceremony.

Gainesville, GA- Freshman swimmer Mairi Morrison has been named Golden Tiger of the Week for the second time this year as a result of her outstanding performance at the NAIA National Swimming Championships last weekend. The Brenau swim team broke seven school records during the championships and Morrison was part of four of the broken records. She teamed up with Julia Ferreira, Ana Galesic, and Lucianne Kimura to place 12th in the 200 Medley Relay with a record time of 1:55.26. The group of Lauren Harville, Galesic, Morrison and Kimura finished 13th in the 800 Free Relay in a record time of 8:22.47 as well. The 400 Medley Relay team of Lucianne Kimura, Mairi Morrison, Julia Ferreira and Ana Galesic broke another school record Friday 4:11.68 clocking and a 12th place finish. The same foursome finished 12th in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:44.18. The 400 Free Relay team of Kimura, Ana Galesic, Julia Ferreira and Mairi Morrison came in 12th in a time of 3:44.24 breaking another school record.

Kansas City, Mo- The Brenau swim team picked up a coveted award this past weekend when they were selected as the Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Award winner. The announcement was made in conjunction with the NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships held in St. Peters, Mo. Upon submission of the nomination form, Coach Gabby Matthews said "A person with character is someone who is always striving to do the right thing no matter what everybody else chooses to do. My team strives to do their best every day. SWIM SMART + TRAIN HARD = BEST RESULTS."

Gainesville, Ga- The Brenau swim team, fresh off their outstanding performance at the NAIA Nationals, has announced the addition of their first recruit for next season. Lisa Portwood, a senior at Walton High School and a member of Swim Atlanta under the tutelage of Rick Vogler, has signed a letter of intent to continue her studies and swim career for the Golden Tigers. She started swimming year round when she was nine years old and has gone to GA short and long course for six years. Portwood has also made the Georgia State high school team all four years.

St. Peters, Mo- The NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships concluded today and the Brenau Golden Tigers finished in 13th place out of 25 teams with 52 points. In events that were conducted today, Lucianne Kimura placed 12th in the 200 Back with a time of 2:12.41 and Lauren Harville clocked a 18:58.09 in the 1650 Free to finish in 21st position. The 400 Free Relay team of Kimura, Ana Galesic, Julia Ferreira and Mairi Morrison came in 12th in a time of 3:44.24.

Champions of Character Winner Mairi Morrison
St. Peters, Mo- The 400 Medley Relay team of Lucianne Kimura, Mairi Morrison, Julia Ferreira and Ana Galesic broke another school record Friday at the NAIA Swimming Championships with a 4:11.68 clocking and a 12th place finish. The same foursome finished 12th in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:44.18. Morrison, who was the team's Champions of Character representative, finished 15th in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.11. Lauren Harville placed 22nd in the 400 IM in 5:06.09 and the team is currently in 13th place with 40 points with one day of competition left.

St. Peters, Mo- The Brenau swim team broke three school records during the first day of competition at the NAIA Championships yesterday. Julia Ferreira placed 36th in the 200 IM and broke the record with a 2:21.48 clocking and she teamed up with Ana Galesic, Mairi Morrison and Lucianne Kimura to place 12th in the 200 Medley Relay with a record time of 1:55.26. The group of Lauren Harville, Galesic, Morrison and Kimura finished 13th in the 800 Free Relay in a record time of 8:22.47 as well. Other Brenau finishes were Morrison (33rd) and Galesic (45th) in the 50 Free. Action continues today at the St. Peters Rec Plex.

Gainesville, GA- Junior swimmer Lucianne Kimura (Mogidas Cruzes, SP-Brazil) has been named Golden Tiger of the Week for the week of Feb. 16-23 for her performance in the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships last weekend at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Kimura won the only gold medal for the Tigers with a school record 2:12.04 in the 200 Back and followed that up with another record 1:02.68 in the 100 Back. She also participated in five different relay teams, three of which broke records.

Huntington, WV- The Brenau swim team had a tremendous showing at the Appalachian Swimming and Diving Championships held at Marshall University over the weekend by finishing in 5th place out of 14 schools. Lucianne Kimura broke two individual school records in the 100 Back (1:02.68) and 200 Back (2:12.04) and was also part of three relays records (200 Free, 800 Free and 400 Medley). She received Brenau's only gold medal in the 100 Back. Julia Ferreira also broke the school record in the 200 IM and swam on all three record breaking relays.
