Gainesville, Ga - Coach Meredith Franklin has announced the addition of Tanisha Fields to the Brenau Volleyball program. Fields played at Benjamin Banneker High School where she was team captain for four years and selected and Most Outstanding Defensive Player for two seasons. She also won the Coaches Award. She was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Principal's Award.
Fields also played club volleyball where she competed for the Atlanta Boom. "I decided to come to Brenau because I see a place where I can mold my character as a young woman," said Fields at her signing. "On the court I will contribute to the team by bringing energy, pride and a love of the game."
Coach Matthews is excited about what Tanisha brings to the table and cited her outstanding defensive ability as something the team needs in the upcoming season. "She will blend in nicely with our returners and should give us a much needed dimension."

Gainesville, Ga- Brenau University Volleyball Coach Meredith Matthews announced the addition of Ashley Valentine from North Georgia Christian High School to the Golden Tiger Volleyball team. Valentine had an outstanding high school career, serving as captain all four years while being names Female Athlete of the Year twice and Most Valuable Player three times.
She was also named to four different all tournament teams and received the Christian Character Award as well as becoming a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of Student Government, part of the Youth Leadership Council of Hall County and Homecoming Queen.
"I love volleyball and believe that my work ethic, attitude and personality will fit right in with the rest of the team," said Valentine, who will major in nursing at Brenau.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that a total of 304 volleyball players have been named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Volleyball Scholar-Athletes. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.

Gainesville, GA- Senior Karen Green put the finishing touches on a record-breaking volleyball season today by being named Golden Tiger of the Week for Nov. 10-17 by the coaching staff at Brenau. Green was also named GTOW for the week of Oct. 19-26, the same week she became Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the first time in program history.

Cleveland, TN- The Brenau volleyball team (24-11) saw their record-breaking season end today in the semi-finals of the SSAC Championships when they were defeated by Lee University by scores of 14-25, 17-25 and 22-25. The Flames, who won the regular season championship, will advance to the championship game tomorrow with a berth in the NAIA National Championships at stake. The Tigers end a season that saw a complete turnaround in the history of volleyball at Brenau.

Cleveland, TN- In what has become a season of firsts for the Brenau volleyball program, the Tigers provided another one today by defeating Southern Wesleyan in the first round of the SSAC Conference Championships in a five game thriller, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25, and 15-7. The reward for the win will be a chance to play regular season champion Lee University in the semi-finals later today.

Gainesville, GA- Senior Maida Smajic was outstanding in defeat today, collecting 28 digs and 27 receptions as Brenau dropped their regular season finale to Shorter. Shorter finishes in second place in the SSAC at 9-3 and 25-8 overall. BU finishes in fourth place at 5-7 and 23-10. The TIgers actually came out firing at took the first game 25-16 before the Hawks stormed back to win the next three 25-19, 25-11 and 25-19.

Gainesville, GA-The three amigos, Karen Green, Maida Smajic and Audra VanArsdale, had a big night as the Tigers cruised past Brewton Parker in SSAC volleyball action, running their conference record to 5-6 and their overall mark to 23-9. Game scores were 25-13, 26-24 and 25-12 as the fourth place team in the conference left no doubt that they were going to give their three beloved seniors a great sendoff.

Waleska, GA- Seniors Maida Smajic and Audra VanArsdale set school records tonight in a comeback win for the Golden Tigers volleyball team over former conference nemesis Reinhardt College. Smajic broke the record for digs with 41 as she also collected 23 receptions, and VanArsdale broke her own assists record, recording 60 while also getting 19 digs. Reinhardt won the first two games 25-15 and 26-24 before Brenau stormed back to win games three and four 25-16 and 26-24 respectively.

Gainesville, GA- The #22 ranked Lee University Flames (28-5, 11-0) volleyball team made short work of the Golden Tigers (21-9, 4-6) tonight in SSAC action, winning 25-13, 25-8 and 25-15. Brenau was never in the match, but did play with the visitors for a short time in game 3 before the Flames put the match away. "We still have a mental barrior to overcome when it comes to this team, but I was encouraged about the way we played in the early part of the third game," said Coach Meredith Matthews.
