Montgomery, Al - The13th ranked Auburn Montgomery Lady Senators (3-1) outlasted the Brenau Golden Tigers (0-3) in the finale of the Capital City Classic Soccer Tournament today by the score of 2-0. The match was scoreless through the first half, with the home team scoring the first goal in the 71st minute. The second goal came in the 86th minute as Brenau was pushing forward with their defenders in an attempt to score the tying goal.
Freshman defender Janay Hunt (Madison, Al) played an exceptional game for the Tigers and solved a lot of problems on the defensive side. Senior goalie Lisa Lesnick came up with seven saves as AUM had nine shots on goal compared to one by Freshman Kirsty Smith for Brenau.
"AUM is a solid team and I was pleased with the fact that we played them even up for most of the game," said Coach Mike Lochstampfor. " I thought our overall effort was much better and Janay Hunt played a tremendous game."
The Tigers will return to action next Wednesday, Sept. 8 when they host Reinhardt College at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex with the faceoff scheduled for 7 pm.
