Mt. Vernon, Ga- The #11 Brenau softball team reclaimed a share of second place in the SSAC today with a doubleheader sweep of Brewton Parker, 4-1 and 12-0 (6). With the wins, the Tigers move their overall record to 32-11-1 and their conference mark to 23-8-1 as they end their regular season and await the SSAC tournament next week in Columbus. The Barons drop to 25-29 and 10-22.
Freshman pitcher Anna Maness had a big day, picking up her 20th and 21st wins of the season, which ranks her 3rd in the conference and striking out eight. She also hit a home run in the 6th inning of the first game and drove in three runs in the second outing. Maness got offensive support from Tiffany Schandera, Morgan Smith, Sarah Applegarth, Caitlin Kelly and Brooke Bryant with one hit apiece.
Brenau pounded out 15 hits in the second game to end it in the sixth inning with the mercy rule. Schandera was the story in this one, going 4-5 with two doubles and two RBI's. The Freshman from Columbus is ranked in the top 10 in the conference with a .390 batting average. Ellen Black and Kelly had two hits apiece with an RBI and seven others reached base safely in this one.
With the regular season behind them, BU will now turn their attention to the conference tournament, which will be played in Columbus next weekend. On the line will be a second consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament for the Tigers.
