Central, SC- The #12 Brenau softball team made an offensive statement yesterday, pounding out 34 hits in a doubleheader against conference rival Southern Wesleyan, winning 10-0 (6) and 12-4 (5). The Tigers move to 25-8-1 on the season and maintain second place in the SSAC at 16-5-1. The Warriors drop to 8-28 on the season and 3-19 in conference play. Freshman Tiffany Schandera had a huge day at the plate with five hits, seven RBI's and a home run. Sophomore Morgan Smith broke her own season school record for homers, picking up her 11th in the second game.
Freshman Anna Maness picked up her 16th win of the season in the first game, striking out nine. She is carrying a 1.65 ERA for the season. Brenau collected 18 hits in this one, led by Schandera, Smith and Colleen Sparrow with three hits apiece. Schandera (4) and Smith (3) drove in seven runs between the two of them. Taylor Shrader, Lana Lazar and Maness (RBI) had two hits apiece and Brooke Bryant, Sarah Applegarth and Ellen Black (RBI) picked up one hit each.
Black took over on the mound for game two and struck out seven as the Tigers again ended the game early with the 8 run rule. Brenau had 14 hits, with Schandera and Bryant each going 2-3 with three RBI's. Schandera blasted a two run homer in the second inning and the rout was on. Austin Smith went 2-2 with an RBI double, Caitlin Kelly had two hits and two RBI's and Black picked up a couple of hits. Applegarth, Shrader and Lazar had one hit apiece.
Next up for the Tigers will be #19 Auburn Montgomery, who currently sits in third place in the SSAC. The first pitch will go at 5 pm next Monday at the Lanier Point Softball Complex.
