Rome, Ga- After falling behind 2-1 in the doubles round, the #7 Brenau tennis team roared back in singles competition, sweeping all the matches to beat #17 Shorter College 7-2 in a key SSAC match-up. Lyn See Choo and Katarina Mazackova were the only team successful in doubles competition, beating the Shorter number one team without the loss of a game. Eline Nagels won her fifth match in a row at the number six spot and Choo and Mazackova continued their solid play with wins in singles to push Brenau ahead 4-2 with three matches still on court. Jolene Wong overcame some nervous moments in the second set to finally close out her match against Shorter's De Beaucoudrey 6-4, 6-3 and clinch the win for the Tigers. Liuba Orlova then rallied from one set down to win at the number 5 position and Hannah Thompson after trailing in the first set showed her usual fighting spirit to post a two set victory.
Coach Leslie commented, "Shorter is a much improved team that probably should be ranked higher than they are. This was a fine team performance that tested our mental toughness. This win should give us confidence for our SSAC match against Lee University on Monday."
