Decatur, Ala.-The top seeded Brenau softball team punched their ticket to both the 2017 Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Championship game and to the NAIA Softball Opening Round with a 2-1 win over second seeded William Carey (Miss.) University on Friday night.
After trailing 1-0 through the first five innings, junior catcher Savannah Moore hit a clutch two-out, two-run single to propel the Golden Tigers to a 2-1 victory and a pass into Saturday's championship game.
Starter Kathleen Daniel pitched a complete game to capture her third win of the tournament. The freshman threw a four-hitter and notched 11 strikeouts while allowing only one earned run to outduel the Crusaders' starter Rachel Hickman.
Moore led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while junior Mason Garland added the only other Brenau hit.
Brenau (50-5 overall) awaits their opponent for the championship game which is set for 1pm central/2 pm eastern on Saturday.
