Gainesville, Ga- Sophomore catcher Morgan Smith went 5-6 at the plate and drove in seven runs tonight as the Brenau softball team swept a doubleheader over Emmanuel, 8-0 (5) and 9-1 (6). The Tigers run their season record to 12-1-1 and their conference mark to 7-0-1 and Emmanuel drops to 0-16, 0-6. Anna Manesss went the distance in the first game, striking out six and Smith went 2-3 with a 2 run homer and 3 RBI's. Sarah Applegarth collected two hits and drove in a run; Tiffany Schandera drove in two runs with a hit and Lana Lazar went 1-2 with an RBI.
The second game was a different story with the score at 2-1 Brenau in the 5th inning before the fireworks began. Maness started things off with a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth and Ellen Black followed that up with another two run walk off homerun to end the game in the bottom of the sixth. Black went 3-4 with 4 RBI's in that game and got the win on the mound with five strikeouts. Maness came in and struck out two to get the save. Smith went 3-3 with an RBI and Lazar, Applegarth, Brooke Bryant, Taylor Schrader and Austin Smith each had a hit. The TIgers will host the only other team in the conference without a loss tomorrow when Brewton Parker comes to town with games set to begin at 5:30 pm at the Lanier Point Softball Complex.
