On day one of the 2017 Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships, the Brenau swim team had several strong performances and set two new records in a competitive field in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The 800 freestyle relay team of Yanne Touissant, Maria Morrell Quiroga, Ella Kleinschmidt and Courtney Hayward captured first place and set both a season-best and new meet record time of 7:48.60. The team bested the previous meet record by almost two seconds that was set by Brenau in 2015.
Individually, Hayward also set a new conference record in the 1,000 freestyle, winning the event in 10:28.95.
Brenau sits in third place after day one, earning 60 points for their two victories. Emmanuel (Ga.) College scored 72 points for an early meet lead, while Mars Hill (NC) College sits in second with 61 points.
Day two events will continue today as the Golden Tigers look to pursue a conference championship.
