Gainesville, Ga- The Brenau tennis team held their position at #7 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll released yesterday at the national office. Defending National Champions and SSAC foe Auburn Montgomery remains the top rated team, and #17 Lee University and #18 Shorter round out the four teams from the SSAC that are ranked in the poll. The complete poll follows:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) has been named No. 1 in the NAIA Women's
Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Coaches' Poll for the 42nd straight time, the NAIA announced on Tuesday.
Fresno Pacific (Calif.) snagged two first-place votes and remained in second place. No. 3 Concordia (Calif.), No. 4 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and No. 5 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) round out the top five.
Auburn Montgomery has won the last six NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships and its reign at No. 1 dates back to Feb. 11, 2004. The Lady Senator's are off to a 2-0 start, defeating NCAA Division I Jacksonville State (Ala.), 7-0 on Feb. 2, and No. 18 Shorter (Ga.), 7-2 on Feb. 18.
Nine conferences and unaffiliated groupings are represented in the poll. The Golden State Athletic Conference leads all groups with six ranked schools. The GSAC is represented by Fresno Pacific, Concordia, No. 6 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), No. 7 Vanguard (Calif.), No. 10 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and No. 15 Westmont (Calif.).
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groupings. The next poll will be announced on March 9.
