Americus, GA-  Senior Post Sarah Ledford (Ellijay) became the first Golden Tigers basketball player to score 1,000 points today when she hit a layup early in the second half as Brenau defeated NCAA II Georgia Southwestern 75-64.  The Tigers ran their record to 7-2 for the season and GSW dropped to 5-5 and suffered their first home defeat of the year.  Senior Vicky Wilson hit 5-6 three pointers to finish with 19 points and Senior Paige Cooper was 7-11 from the field, including 3 threes for 18 points. Ashley Hagans had an off shooting day, but hit 8-8 free throws to finish with 15.  Brenau started fast and built a 15 point lead midway through the first half, but GSW rallied to trail 40-32 at halftime.  The home team then went on a 11-1 run early in the second half to take the lead 43-41, but the Tigers regrouped and assumed control to finish with the 11 point win.  Ledford now has 1,001 points in her career and actually scored the first basket in Brenau basketball history when the program started in 2006.  She is also the first Tigers player to be named to the SSAC All Conference team when she received that recognition during her sophomore year.  With this win, the Tigers basketball program now has an overall record of 50-50.  Brenau will take a break for Christmas before returning to action in the Daytona Beach Shootout Dec. 28-29 when they take on #15 Trevecca Nazarene, TN and two time defending National Champions and current #1 Union, TN.
